On the eve of the opening of Comic-Con ‘08, I have another “Supernatural” update for the fans attending the convention. Unfortunately due to production and travel issues, the Saturday (7/26) 5:00 p.m. autograph signing that had been scheduled for Jensen & Jared has been CANCELLED.

Please note that THIS DOES NOT IMPACT ANY OF SUNDAY’S SCHEDULED EVENTS FOR “SUPERNATURAL.” Both Jensen AND Jared will still be participating in our scheduled panel that day, and Jared is still a part of the “Friday the 13th” panel.

The only thing on Sunday that has changed is that Jensen will now be joining the Producers’ Autograph Signing at 12:30 p.m. in the WB Booth (#4329 – Hall E). However, due to the same issues as above, Jared unfortunately will not be able to participate in any autograph signing at CC this year.

12:30 – 1:15 pm: Supernatural Producers AND JENSEN sign in the Warner Bros. booth (#4329 – Hall E).

**FYI that Jared will also be participating in a panel for “Friday the 13th” in Rm. 20 from 1:00-1:30 pm.

It seems right now, only Leighton and Chace will be attending.

I'm a huge fan of Rainbowmoon, a German fanartist. If you look at his art I think you'll see why-- the guy is amazing. See more here if the first link wasn't enough. Rainbowmoon stopped drawing, or at least posting to that site, in 2006 but last week I found two new pictures that look like his work. This and and this one.

Does anyone on here happen to know if Rainbowmoon is drawing again? And where I can find happy shiny full-sized pictures?

I decided to make a custom dolly since I haven't in ages, so I bought this PGSM Venus http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/naia_zifu/dolly1.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b302/naia_zifu/dolly2.jpg cheap on Ebay (she was in-box but previously displayed) to use as my base. My immediate thought on seeing her was "Myu Gala!" but I know I can't exactly put a zillion studs on the costume of a like six-inch doll. Any ideas for how to make a costume clearly myu-ish without that? Well, since she has the long, curly golden hair like that I guess I could do her reformed, with the cool cape. That would make her more myu-identifiable, but I still would wanna do the costume up a bit somehow. *ponders*

Here's an article from MediaBlvd Magazine musing on whether or not "Supernatural" is taking a stand on current issues of politics and war against terror through its myth arc. Mild spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen season 3 or its conclusion.

Personally, my view is while SPN certainly makes use of modern day themes that are swirling around in all our heads--good vs. evil and how does one know the difference, sacrifice for a higher cause, extremism, prejudice, vigilantism, alienation vs. family, compassion's role within violent struggle, etc.--I don't think Kripke & Co. are trying specifically to make a political statement as much as take these themes and turn them on their heads with an SPN twist.

Sometimes a demon is just a demon... ;-)

NEW YORK - "Gossip Girl" will get people talking. At least, that seems likely as the CW network brings to a boil its new campaign for the sexy prep-school soap.

The show's second season begins Sept. 1, following an August promotion to put viewers, um, in the mood. And here's a twist: The racy ads co-opt language from the very criticism of the show for being too, well, racy.

Alert surfers got a preview last week, when images of coupled-up "Gossip Girl" characters found their way onto several Web sites.

Item: Here's Serena van der Woodsen (series blonde Blake Lively) with eyes shut dreamily, mouth open, while a friend, his face buried in her tresses, nuzzles her neck.

Strongly suggesting the pair are just getting started, the headline, which quotes The Boston Herald, declares: "Every Parent's Nightmare."

Other such lovey-dovey moments (on a couch, in the sack or apparently skinny-dipping) are accompanied by headlines like "A Nasty Piece of Work" and "Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate."

That latter phrase was borrowed from the Parents Television Council, which has blasted the series' salacious content since its premiere.

"I think it reeks of desperation, if they have to position themselves as so edgy and so controversial that they've been called out by us," said Melissa Henson, PTC director of communications.

But CW marketing boss Rick Haskins said the advertising just aims to get noticed.

"What we're trying to do is communicate with the audience in a way that they like and can appreciate," he said. "This sort of campaign resonates with someone who likes 'Gossip Girl'" — specifically, women ages 18 to 34.

The objective was finding "well-written headlines that are provocative and would catch our viewers' attention," said Haskins, "and, in a tongue-in-cheek way, capture what the show is about."

The series is based on the popular "Gossip Girl" young-adult novels, and is presented to the audience through the eyes of its mysterious title character, whose tattling posts are savored by the show's PDA-packing teens as they share the luxe life on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The series debuted last fall. Then, in January, its run was interrupted by the Hollywood writers strike. No new episodes were aired until April 21, for which the first welcome-back campaign was launched.

That promotion included racy images of the show's characters with the headline: "OMFG." THAT got people talking.

While the CW's Haskins insisted at the time that the initials could stand for any number of things, like "Oh My Freaking Goodness" (and as the Gawker Web site sarcastically scoffed, "On Meth, Feeling Good," among others), many of its intended viewers may have seized on a much ruder interpretation — wording that would be taboo on broadcast TV and most advertising.

"Rather than reinforcing positive values that parents are trying to instill in their children, this program very often is undermining these positive values," said PTC's Henson in April during a CNN-aired discussion spurred by that steamy campaign.

"Gossip Girl" can only hope that its September return will be greeted with comparable notice.
